FAQs

  • We’re not a hostel nor a retreat center or guided Workation - but we’re very well connected. When you move in, we’ll introduce you to the wider digital nomad community on the island, share access to WhatsApp groups for all kind of activities, communities, coworking, and events. Most people end up finding their tribe quickly and join meetups, outdoor adventures or simply grab a coffee with others. It’s a very welcoming crowd, and you can be as social or as quiet as you like.

  • If you're staying right in the center of Funchal, you might be fine without a vehicle. But if you want to explore more of the island - its hikes, beaches, and scenic viewpoints - we definitely recommend renting a car or scooter.

Madeira is full of steep hills, long tunnels, and winding roads, and while there is public transport, it’s often limited and not always reliable. Having your own transport gives you the freedom to discover the island at your own pace, without depending on timetables.

We’re happy to share good contacts for affordable and trustworthy rental companies - just reach out to us if you’d like help with that.

  • Pack for layers! Weather can change quickly. Hiking shoes are really useful here - the trails can be slippery. If you prefer not to bring them, there’s a good Decathlon and second-hand market on the island. You can always buy them here and resell them at the end of your stay if needed.

  • Madeira in winter is surprisingly mild. December has daytime temperatures between 18°C–22°C and cooler evenings around 14°C–16°C. Rain can happen (especially in the mountains), but it usually doesn’t last long. Bring a light jacket and a rain layer just in case. The sea stays around 20°C, so yes, you can still swim! It's a lovely time for hiking and enjoying nature with fewer crowds.

  • No, no worries at all. Almost everyone speaks English here, especially in the nomad community and around Funchal. Most expats and locals are super friendly and helpful. So even if you don’t speak a word of Portuguese, you’ll get around just fine.

  • For the Luzia House: Since the Luzia House is only bookable as a whole at the moment, you can simply send a booking request. You will get a response within 24 hours. After we've confirmed, you can book directly through our Website.

For the Colivings: Since you are sharing the space with other people, we usually ask you to tell us a little bit about yourself - for example, how you imagine a normal working day at our Coliving, what kind of place and people you're looking for. This allows us to assess whether your expectations align with our offer and atmosphere.

Happy guests who feel like home are very important to us - this process will ensure you have booked the right place for yourself :)

A few days or weeks before your arrival, we will invite you to our Coliving WhatsApp groups, so you can already get to know your fellow Colivers.

  • Luzia House: We require a minimum stay of 3 nights.

Colivings: Our places are ideal for slow traveller. Most people stay at least 3 months. We usually only accept people who also plan to stay at least a few weeks, so they can settle in properly, get homy, deepen their connections with the community and enjoy a more regular time schedule. To our experience, even those who only planned to stay for some weeks, quickly extended their stay to several months - Madeira's magic is real ✨

  • Each of our locations has its own dedicated FAQ—covering all the essentials like how to get there, Wi-Fi access, amenities, and more. On top of that, we’ll send you a beautifully crafted PDF guide before your arrival. It includes useful apps for exploring Madeira, recommended groups to join, tips for outdoor activities, and even a special packing list (with a few things you might not expect!). Everything is designed to make your arrival smooth and your stay as relaxed and inspired as possible ✨

  • Please review our Terms and Conditions for details on our Cancellation Policy and other general rules.

  • We run on glass fibre technology with speeds around 500 Mbit/sec (often more), supported by a mesh network that covers the entire accommodation. For those who prefer a wired connection, we can usually provide LAN cables as well. Some of our guests work in high-bandwidth fields like game streaming or video editing - and while no system is perfect 100% of the time, our connection has proven to be very reliable for most needs.

  • Usually it’s 3-4 people sharing a flat, and up to 6 people in the Luzia House. Each person (or sometimes couple) has their own room while working remotely. Most of our guests are active, open-minded, and nature-loving. They enjoy a calm, respectful atmosphere and like joining hikes or dinners when possible.

  • We strive to offer beautiful spaces for balance - places where focus and relaxation go hand in hand. Our vision is to create homes that support your most productive self while inviting moments of calm, connection, and inspiration.

Across our Colivings, we’re shaping environments that nurture entrepreneurs, creatives, and remote workers who value both personal growth and meaningful downtime. Think cozy work corners with a view, gentle reminders to breathe and reset, outdoor spaces for movement and stillness, and an open, respectful atmosphere that encourages both dreaming and doing.

Whether you're here to finish a big project, explore Madeira’s wild beauty, or simply enjoy a slower pace of life - we hope our spaces become little sanctuaries that ground and uplift you 🌿✨

  • Just send us your WhatsApp or e-Mail, and we’ll add you to our priority list. That way, if a room becomes available, you’ll be the first to know - before we post it on public channels. It’s the best way to stay in the loop without constantly checking listings.
